Business Contact Information
Definition
Professional contact details used for work purposes, such as work email addresses, office phone numbers, job titles, and company names. While business contact information relates to identifiable individuals and therefore constitutes personal data under laws like GDPR, it typically receives different treatment than personal consumer information. The professional context means legitimate business interests often justify processing without explicit consent. However, this doesn't mean business contact information is unregulated. You still need lawful basis (typically legitimate interests), must be transparent about use, and should honor opt-out requests for marketing. GDPR applies fully to business contact information—the common misconception that GDPR doesn't cover B2B data is wrong. The difference is in application: business contacts generally have lower privacy expectations for work-related communications, and proportionality considerations differ from consumer contexts.
